About a year and a half ago, I met award-winning comedian and journalist Maureen Langan (pictured, above).

Mo has become a great friend and creative partner. We've got lots of great projects in the works and over the next couple weeks (and continuing on through the end of the year), I'm going to use this blog to write about how we met and ponder our journey.

Picture it: February 2009, assy cold, nighttime.

Josh (my roommate and creative partner) and I saw Mo perform at a comedy club in Manhattan. I can't remember the name of the club and I'm just too damned lazy to play "Google detective." I recall the club was on the lower East Side. Mo came in to do her spot for the night.

The audience was small, maybe 20. The emcee announced Maureen. Mo took the stage and whipped up some comedy magic.

I don't use the phrase "comedy magic" lightly because I was a comedy critic for three years when I  lived in North Carolina. I have seen countless routines: good, bad and great. If a particular comedian makes makes me snort laugh, that comedian becomes a "God (or Goddess) of Comedy."

Mo made me snort laugh. Josh, who never laughs, giggled. Maureen was instantly deified.

As Mo tried to make a clean getaway, I bolted towards the door to give her my card. I mumbled something about bringing a watermelon. She looked at me like I was a freak.

Josh, on the other hand, decided to politely request her business card. Because Mo helps people, she gave Josh her card. When we got home, he stalked her on MySpace.

Josh blabbed to Maureen about how we had developed a working relationship with a production company (a company that has since gone "poof!"). Josh blabbed further that we wanted to create a t.v. project as a vehicle for Maureen and then pitch it to the production company.

After a series of e-mails and phone calls, we selected a time that was mutually convenient to all parties. We scheduled our first creative three-way session at the Westway Diner on 9th Avenue in Manhattan.

COMING SOON: Do it where Seinfeld did it.
